DANCE meets FASHION

The dance world has influenced the fashion industry over the past 100 years. Although I'm not sure what came first between these two topics, they both motivate and influence one another. I feel as though dance inspires fashion in so many ways. For example, ballet is a form of dance that deals with a lot of elongating the body, having a graceful poise, and strengthening the muscles. Couture, meaning high fashion, is similar to ballet in many ways also. The model is usual a tall thin woman, who delivers poise and grace, as a ballet dancer. Also Couture dressing has a vintage, classy theme to it, where the wardrobe in ballet is also conservative to the Couture wear. But as I look back in time, during the Victorian times, many of the young woman wore a corset-type top to hold and control there stomach, leaving their body sleek and smooth. Where in ballet they use a material(a body suit) to give the dancer the control in the middle area, to keep the sleek long look that ballerina is suppose to look like. In my research paper I plan on also talking about many forms of dance, such as, jazz, modern, and hip-hop and relate it to the fashion industry.
